Malaysia will take a tougher stance to recover more funds from Goldman Sachs if the US investment bank continues to refrain from engaging with Putrajaya about repatriating funds stolen from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the money must be returned for people’s education, public healthcare and basic amenities.

“We are not some banana republic that you can plunder and leave.

“I will be in the United States next week and we hope to find an amicable solution to this issue,” he said during a talk during the 10th Annual Asia Summit here on Wednesday (Sept 13).

He said that the investment community was aware how the scandal has caused the Malaysian economy to suffer.


🇺🇸🔨Potentially world’s largest lithium reservoir found in supervolcano McDermitt Caldera in Nevada

Geologists have uncovered what they believe could be the world’s largest lithium deposit inside an ancient supervolcano along the Nevada-Oregon border in the US.

Clay containing up to 40 million metric tons of lithium was identified throughout the 600-mile-wide McDermitt Caldera – nearly double what has been found in Bolivia’s salt flats that have long held the record for the most lithium deposits.

While the amount of lithium is based on estimates – no drilling has taken place – scientists have found high concentrations of lithium in the caldera since the 1970s.

As of 2022, the average battery-grade lithium carbonate price was $37,000 per metric ton, meaning the volcano is potentially sitting on $1.48 trillion worth of the precious metal.


The BRICS countries are discussing the possibility of creating a common unit of account (XLM/Stellar??? 😉) that would serve as an alternative to the U.S. dollar Minister Siluanov told the Chinese state-run CGTN TV channel during the BRICS summit.

The prospect of issuing single currency (😉) for the bloc, which unites leading emerging economies, (Uniting Emerging Countries = Level Playing Field” ❤️🫂❤️) is one of the topics of the talks.

Anton Siluanov pointed out, however, that the main emphasis, when it comes to the development of trade relations, is now placed on settlements in national currencies,

The Grain Deal 2.0 emerges?

Details of an alternative to the grain deal prepared by Russia, Türkiye and Qatar have been revealed.

Russia is now considering supplying Türkiye with 1 million tons of grain to be processed and sent to countries in need, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said.

The deliveries are to be made at a preferential price “with financial support” from Qatar. After processing in Turkish companies, the grain to be sent to poor countries, mostly in Africa. The measure was proposed by Vladimir Putin as an alternative to the grain deal.

The Russian and Turkish foreign ministers will hold talks on this topic in Moscow from August 31 to September 1.

In mid-August, Bild reported that Russia, Türkiye and Qatar were preparing a new agreement to replace the grain deal in which Moscow suspended its participation on July 18.
